The European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal products (EMEA) in London is now recruiting a Head of Unit responsible for the Evaluation of Medicinal products for human use (A3). The Agency is responsible for coordinating the evaluation and supervision of medicinal products for human and veterinary products for use in the European Communities. It was established in January 1995 and works closely with the European Commission, the EU Member States, the EEA countries and many other groups in government and the private sector. The candidates will report to the Executive Director of the EMEA and must have: - At least 15 years professional experience at category A level, after obtaining the relevant degree; - An extensive knowledge of quality, safety and efficacy requirements for the authorisation and post marketing surveillance of medicinal products; - Ability to communicate and present the Agency's position externally and to staff internally so as to ensure awareness of the regulatory framework within which the Agency operates; - A good command of English with sound knowledge of one or more other official Community languages; - Experience of working in a multilingual environment; - A university degree relevant to the field of medicine, pharmacy or other life sciences. This post will be vacant from April 2000. A selection board consisting of members designated by the Executive Director and the staff Committee will screen candidates and then invite selected candidates for interviews. The EMEA will then draw up a reserve list and, depending on the budgetary situation, the candidate may be offered a five year renewable contract in accordance with the conditions of employment of other servants of the European Communities. The position is based in London and candidates must be nationals of an EU Member State, Iceland or Norway.
