Research DG Director-General steps down
Mr Jorma Routti, the Director General of the European Commission's Research DG has stepped down from his post. However he will not leave the Commission immediately and has taken on the role of 'advisor 'hors classe' within the Research DG. In this capacity, Mr Routti will have special responsibility for 'certain types of international cooperation activities related to research', according to a letter circulated within the Commission by Mr Philippe Busquin, the Research Commissioner. Mr Routti's post is now being advertised within the Commission, as is protocol in such situations. In the meantime, Deputy Director-General Mr Hendrik Tent has taken on Mr Routti's portfolio and will work as acting Director-General and Deputy Director-General in tandem.
