The Joint Research Centre (JRC) will shortly call for tenders for the production and installation of a pilot system to control the movement of dangerous goods for the Italian provinces of Brindisi, Taranto and Venice. This pilot system will consist of a network monitoring the movement of dangerous substances in port and industrial areas and in areas of high population density in the provinces of Brindisi, Taranto and Porto Marghera (Venice province). The pilot system will also include a local centre to control the traffic and manage the dangers and emergencies associated with the movement of dangerous substances for each of the three provinces. The JRC estimates the value of this contract will be at the most 1.35 million euro. Additionally, the JRC will require the production and installation of a monitoring network and control and data processing centres for the three areas. This will involve: the production, integration and on-site installation of these networks, of the associated analysis laboratory, of the computer systems' hardware and software to control and process the information, checking these subsystems function correctly, as well as the provision training and the creation of local technical support structures for the users of these subsystems. The JRC estimates the budget for this contract will be less than 5.49 million euro.
