Reflections on 25 years of nuclear safety in the EU
Reflecting on 25 years of Community activities towards harmonisation of nuclear safety criteria and requirements in the European Union, the Environment Directorate General will shortly call for a study: - to prepare an analysis, synthesis and assessments of the main achievements from Community activities carried out under the Council resolutions of 1975 and 1992 on the 'technological problems of nuclear safety' with due consideration to related activities; - to prepare an overview of safety philosophies and practices in the EU Member States, taking account of their national specificity in terms of legal framework, type and age of operating nuclear reactors; - to provide elements of a strategy for future activities in the frame of Council resolutions, with particular attention to the context of enlargement of the EU. The award procedure should begin during May 2000.
