IMPACT 2: Proceedings of PUBLAW 2 workshop
In the context of the IMPACT 2 programme for the establishment of an internal information services market, a workshop on the results of the PUBLAW 2 study took place in Luxembourg on 4 March 1993. The proceedings of the workshop are now available. The PUBLAW 2 study was commissioned by DG XIII to examine the implementation of the "Guidelines for improving the synergy between the public and private sectors in the information market", followed by an investigation of policies in the USA and Canada in the field of commercialization of public sector information by the private sector. The study is the follow-up to PUBLAW 1, an in-depth analysis of access legislation in the EC Member States. The March workshop brought together information services providers and users, publishers, representatives of the Member States' administrations involved in the commercialization of public data, DG XIII's Legal Advisory Board members and IMPACT programme Committee members. Its aim was to produce indications about the kind of actions the market place would expect the Commission to undertake in the field. A number of proposals were put forward by the workshop participants. These are now being studied by the Commission with a view to preparing an appropriate follow-up.
