Developing multimedia information services: Results of IMPACT project workshop
The minutes are now available of a March 1993 workshop held in the context of the Community programme for an internal information services market (IMPACT 2, 1991-1995) on interactive multimedia (IMM) projects for the development of multimedia information services. Taking place in Luxembourg on 15-16 March 1993, the workshop was held for the benefit of participants in IMM projects selected for funding under IMPACT after a 1992 call for proposals. These projects ran during a definition phase until mid-1993, and a further evaluation is now under way to choose those to be supported for a maximum one-year implementation phase. Objectives of the meeting were to encourage synergy between the 58 projects involved, present interim results, help solve problems encountered since the start of the definition phase and to present details of new activities that might be useful in the future development of projects. The workshop also featured contributions from Philips ("CD-I to date"), Microsoft (Windows-based multimedia: Market opportunities and strategies"), IBM (Putting multimedia to work"), EURO CD ("The market for CD-ROM"), and EUROKOM ("The use of online computing services in the management of an international project"). Included in the 110-page publication are reports on the workshop discussion groups together with summary sheets and mid-term reports on the IMPACT IMM projects.
