The Energy and Transport Directorate-General has issued an invitation to tender for a study concerning directives on marine equipment, fishing vessel safety and passenger ships. The study would assess the need for and establish the extent of updating and improving the technical annexes of Council Directive 96/98/EC on marine equipment, Directive 97/70/EC on fishing vessel safety, and Directive 98/18/EC on passenger ships. The Commission wants the study to identify which regulations and standards in international instruments and which international and European testing standards have been amended or adopted since the date of adoption of the directives referred to and are relevant for the purpose of updating the annexes of these directives. Furthermore, it should elaborate draft technical proposals for updating the annexes to these directives, in line with the amendment procedures established in the directives, and report on the progress and state of play to Commission services.
