A call for tenders for a study entitled 'Monitoring European telecommunications operators' has been issued by the Information Society Directorate-General. The contractor will be asked to organise and collect in a database, large amounts of updated information on all telecommunications operators in Europe, including both service providers and network operators. The data will be organised according to four criteria: - equity capital controlling European operators' structures (in particular identifying holdings from the state and non-European WTO foreign investments); - types of infrastructure used, in particular for the local loop (such as cable, wireless local loop, PSTN, etc.); - types of services actually provided by the operators in the domestic market (for example business or residential, voice telephony, data transmission, leased lines, Internet access, etc.); - the presence of European operators in the foreign market (Europe and non-European WTO countries), through direct subsidiaries, joint venture, participation in foreign companies, mergers and acquisitions.
