Partial dismantling and reorganisation of an accelerator laboratory
The Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements of the Joint Research Centre will shortly require the removal of its 3,7 MV Van de Graaff accelerator from the laboratory, for which it will issue an invitation to tender. The contract concerns the removal of this accelerator and its ancillary components, and the removal of the 'tower' that accommodates the installation as well as the support construction for this tower. Contractors will also be expected to restore the roof and the floors of the laboratory. All steps must be taken in accordance with a dismantling plan drawn up by an external expert in accordance with NIRAS guidelines. Offers shall therefore be based both on a technical specification as well as on the said dismantling plan. This implies that the contractor is responsible for the appropriate discharge of the waste materials that may be activated or contaminated. The works are subject to radiation protection regulations and the IRMM's officer responsible for radiation protection shall monitor the strict observance of these rules.
