Update on study on the radiological exposure from radioactivity in north European marine waters
A study to update the original Marina Project on the radiological exposure of the European Community from radioactivity in north European marine waters is required by the Environment Directorate-General. The original Marina Project considered discharges from nuclear installations up to 1984 (1986 for reprocessing wastes). This included the sea dumping of radioactive waste, Chernobyl deposition and naturally-occurring radioactive material. The update, for which tender proceedings have been launched, will consider data on discharges to and concentrations in the marine environment up to 1/2000 (as available during the period of the study), addressing the effects of discharges on man and biota.
