Agri-environment studies
A framework contract for the provision of thematic studies in the field of agri-environment is available from the Joint Research Centre. The Agriculture and regional information systems unit (ARIS) needs scientific and technical expertise in the field of geo-spatial information for the agri-environment. Applications to be developed should have, as a rule, a European scale, or at least should cover large regions of Europe. The expertise and assistance cover the following tasks: - carrying out scientific thematic studies; - validation and implementation of the results of the studies through a geo-spatial modelling approach; - exploitation of European geo-spatial databases such as: soil map, meteorological information, land-use/land cover, and Natura 2000 (European network of sites of natural importance) to elaborate policy-relevant agri-environmental indicators. Expertise and geo-spatial modelling are required in the field of: - landscape, characterisation, land conservation; - biodiversity and wildlife habitats related to agricultural activities; - water quality (in terms of fertiliser/pesticides content); - soil quality (in terms of erosion, salinisation, crop potentialities); - effect of climate change on agriculture, greenhouse gas emissions and carbon cycle linked to agricultural activities.
