The Joint Research Centre's Global vegetation monitoring unit (GVM) requires advanced technical support services for geographical information systems. GVM's Fifth Framework programme activities contribute to the Space Applications Institutes global monitoring for the environment and security (GMES) project. The GVM unit undertakes work in the generation of data regarding information in the carbon stocks and fluxes into and out of the biosphere. Much of this work is concentrated in the tropical forest belt. A large number of data sets are generated in-house and other data are collected from various sources. Now the unit is calling for advanced technical support in specialised geographical information systems, running under variants of the Unix operating system or equivalent, PCs running under Windows NT or equivalent, including Internet - based solutions, and a range of applications including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphics programmes, etc. For further information, please contact: European Commission Joint Research Centre Space Applications Institute Global Vegetation Institute's Hugh Eva GVM/SAI TP440 I-21020 Ispra (VA) Italy E-mail: hugh.eva@jrc.it Fax +39-0332-789073
