The European Commission is again calling for proposals for research activities to be funded through the Quality of Life and management of living resources thematic programme of the Fifth Framework Programme. Those eligible to participate in indirect RTD actions under the spe...

The European Commission is again calling for proposals for research activities to be funded through the Quality of Life and management of living resources thematic programme of the Fifth Framework Programme. Those eligible to participate in indirect RTD actions under the specific programme are hereby invited to submit proposals for resarch and technological development projects, demonstration projects, combined RTD/demonstration projects, thematic networks and concerted actions that address the following parts of the work programme. - Food, nutrition and health; - - research into the role of food in promoting and sustaining health. - Control of infectious diseases: - - development of improved or novel [...] vaccines; - - strategies to identify and control infectious diseases; - - aspects of public health and care delivery systems. - The cell factory: - - improving the diagnostic and therapeutic arsenal for health care; improving environmental sustainability; - - new bio(techno)logical processes/products [...] - Environment and health: - - all areas. - Sustainable agriculture, fisheries and forestry [...] - - all areas. - The ageing population: - - age related illnesses and health problems; - - determinants of healthy ageing [...] - - demographic and social policy aspects of population ageing; - - coping with functional limitations in old age; - - health and social care services to older people. - Chronic and degenerative diseases [...] - [...] therapies and diagnostic methods [...] - - optimised use of databases, registries, regents and sample banks. - Research into genomes and diseases of genetic origin: - - [...] novel expression systems, mode; organisms, mutant transgenic and hybrid organisms; - [...] underpinning biochemistry, biophysical, statistical and computational approaches. - Neurosciences: - - brain development, disorders and repair [...] - - behaviour, cognition and functional mapping of the brain. - Public health and health services research: - - all areas. - Bioethics: - - all areas. - Socio-economic evaluation of life sciences and health care technologies: - - all areas. When submitting a proposal for an RTD project, a demonstration project, a combined project, or a concerted action, proposers may include an application for a 'bursary for young researchers from developing countries'.
