Commission takes children into cyberspace
As part of the 'Netd@ys Europe Week', taking place between 20 and 27 November, the European Commission' Education and Culture DG and the European Space Agency (ESA) are inviting children to take part in an internet chat with space experts on 24 November. Between 9am and 12am, a special chatroom will be opened for schools on the Ned@ys website (see below for reference) where 15 famous European space experts, including two astronauts, will answer pupils' questions. The aim of the venture is to highlight an example of good practices in the use of new media, especially the internet, as a teaching, learning and discovery resource. 'Ask a space expert @ Netd@ys' is a pioneer project based on a 'student-expert partnership-, as recommended by the pedagogical evaluation of Netd@ys Europe, run by the Universities of Helsinki and Athens last year. One of the objectives behind the initiative is to demonstrate to learning communities how scientific 'mentors' can improve school lessons and motivate pupils to investigate problems.
