Spain is latest victim of BSE
Heath authorities in the north-western Spanish region of Galicia have uncovered the first two cases of mad cow disease in the country. The two animals with BSE were found during testing of 132 cattle just as agriculture ministers from the Member States called for a step-up in monitoring of BSE in response to rising public concern. From January, all cattle over 30 months old suspected of being infected with BSE must be tested before being pronounced fit for consumption.
