A new publication is available focusing on the how community research has benefited the technology sector. 'Spin off technologies from Community research', published by the innovation Directorate of DG Enterprise, looks at the innovation actions called competitive support actions (CSA) carried out under the Fourth Framework programme (FP4). Most of these actions took in the region of a year to complete and were conducted mainly in a collaborative effort between European industries and research centres. The technologies that were exploited fall into nine major clusters, the largest being validation and demonstration of optical sensors and risk analysis in buildings and industry. The publication goes on to give a breakdown of the costs, results and impact of these projects, illustrating several with case studies.
