The European Commission has approved the Irish aid scheme 'Research, technology and innovation initiative'. The scheme is aims to foster research and development activities throughout Ireland. This will be realised with grants for R&D projects in industrial research, pre-competitive development activities and technical feasibility studies. The scheme will run until the end of 2006 and has a total budget of 241 million euro. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will be the main beneficiaries from the scheme, particularly those operating in manufacturing and internationally traded services businesses. Collaborations among companies or involving third level colleges or research institutes are particularly encouraged to apply for support.ent
