EU-NIS scientific cooperation explained
The European Commission has published a brochure on scientific and technological cooperation between the EU and the NIS (New Independent States), with a foreword by European Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin. The report contains chapters in EU-NIS strategic cooperation, diversity and synergy in science and technology cooperation, the fifth Framework programme (FP5), the opening up of EU research to non-EU states, participation in INTAS (international association), weapons research, the Commission's TACIS (technical assistance for the Community of Independent States and Georgia) programme and intergovernmental initiatives. The booklet aims to facilitate and increase the joint participation of research organisations from the NIS, EU Member States and the Associated States in the various European science and technology programmes. It gives an overall outline of the objectives and specific characteristics of cooperation between the EU and the NIS and provides useful information on the various EU RTD programmes which are open to participants from the NIS.
