On 15 and 16 March 2001, the Directorate General for Research of the European Commission held a conference on the contribution of socio-economic research to the benchmarking of Research policies in Europe. CORDIS, The European Commission's Research and Development Information Service, now offers full access to contributions made during the conference. The information is hosted on the 'Improving human research potential and the socio-economic knowledge base' web service. The conference covered four themes: human resources in R&D including attractiveness of scientific careers, public and private investment in R&D, scientific and technological productivity and the contribution of R&D to competitiveness and employment. For each session, contributions of keynote speakers can be downloaded and consulted on-line. The site will prove useful for policy makers and innovation actors interested in reflections on benchmarking processes as well as in presentations of comparative research trends in European countries.
