Action in the field of public health
The European Commission is calling for proposals health monitoring within the framework for action in the field of public health. The Commission will fund actions in the following priority areas specified in the 2001 annual work programme: Establishment of community health indicators - health status - - functioning and quality of life, including self-perceived health and screening practices; - - respiratory diseases; - health determinants - - external environment such as air, water and noise pollution; - - tobacco smoking; - Health systems - - pharmaceutical products: expenditure, consumption, use - - prevention and screening: data sources and indicators concerning the availability and coverage of programmes such as cancer screening, prenatal and neonatal screening or vaccination coverage. Development of a community wide network for sharing health data: - data uploading and database coordination; - interface to facilitate the transfer of data and information into HIEMS. Analyses and reporting - assessment of the impact on health of various policies, such as agriculture policy, transport policy, tax policy and the internal market; - inventory of data sources in health monitoring as well as existing networks; - coordination of the health monitoring programme at the European and Member States levels; - inventory of mechanisms, procedures and responsibilities within Member States regarding production, maintenance and dissemination of health information; - development of comparable data and health monitoring in the applicant countries; - health data requirements for setting health targets.
