Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin will participate in the launch of the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) on 29 May. The IBO is a competition for students in their final year at secondary school, which tests their skills in tackling biological problems and dealing with experiments. Every participating country sends four students, selected from the winners of national competitions. Mr Busquin intends to highlight the pleasure that scientific enterprise can give to the young, something considered very important by the Commissioner at a time when fewer students are choosing to study the sciences. The competition will this year take place in Belgium from 8 until 15 July and will bring together students from five continents.
