The European Commission has announced a call for proposals for RTD (research and technological development) actions on genomics and human health under the 'Quality of life' programme of the European Union's Fifth Framework programme. Submission of proposals under a fixed deadline are invited for integrated projects in the following areas: - development of an integrated platform in bioinformatics and computational biology, with emphasis on development of new tools for data analysis integration and modelling, as well as database interoperability - understanding human molecular physiology and pathology through integrated functional genomics in the mouse model, with emphasis on groundbreaking research on genes relating to human diseases - high throughput structural genomics related to health, with emphasis on improvement, development and application of high throughput methods and technologies for determining the three dimensional structure of proteins of direct relevance to human heath and diseases - creating and implementing tools for genomic epidemiology of common disease, with research focusing on large population cohorts, which represent unique and invaluable scientific and genetic resources for European medical research - functional genomics of gender specific cancers, with research involving multidisciplinary functional genomic approaches Integrated projects contain three components - research, networking and training and mobility - within a common integrated management structure. The indicative budget for this call is 45 million euro and the closing date for submission is 18 October 2001.
