CORDIS, the European Commission's Research and Development Information Service, is giving visibility to a new initiative on 2.5 & 3G mobile applications and services. The new site, hosted on the Information Society Technologies (IST) programme service, supports the launch of a European initiative on developing, trailing and validating new multimedia services and applications on a pan-European basis. The initiative will focus on technical issues such as coding techniques and interoperability between different networks and services platforms. The site provides background and practical information on the prior consultations with stakeholders as well as various presentations. A specific partners search tool is also available to help sector actors build up clusters for research in various fields such as m-commerce, m-infotainment, health and location-based services (tourist guides and traffic services). The site will prove useful for telephone operators, manufacturers, current developers of Internet applications and content providers, contributing to the testing and validation of new techniques. Further information related to the upcoming call for proposals and programme actions will be hosted on the site.
