The European Commission is looking for a high calibre scientist of international reputation to head up its Karlsruhe-based nuclear chemistry unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating the research and development activities of the unit and supporting Commission policies in this field. This will include encouraging collaboration with leading research centres in the areas of radiochemistry and analytical chemistry for nuclear control measurements. Candidates must have a university degree in nuclear or analytical chemistry and a minimum of 12 years professional experience, of which seven must be in the field. Proven research laboratory management experience and good communication and presentation skills are also essential. Applicants must also have experience of managing international and multi-disciplinary projects and quality management skills. Applicants must be EU member state nationals born after 14.09.1946. The job will be located in the Institute for Transuranium Elements in Karlsruhe, Germany and in any place of work of the European Commission. A thorough knowledge of one official EU language and satisfactory knowledge of a second of these languages is required.
