The European Commission's Information Society DG has announced an open call for tenders for a study to produce two annual surveys of telecommunications services indicators. The objective of the study is to monitor the development of the telecommunications services across the different regions of the EU. In particular, the study will provide inputs for the monitoring of the universal service, as foreseen in the Commission proposal for a directive on universal service and users' rights. The study would undertake two annual surveys covering the residential use of fixed telephony, mobile, Internet and digital television, keeping up to date the data of the residential report of the study of telecommunications services in the regions of the European Union finalised in 2000 and available on the website of the Commission. It would cover all EU territory and have a regional perspective. It would be undertaken during the first semester of 2002 and the first semester of 2003 by interviews with an overall sample of approximately 44,000 households. The study would publish the results in a clear and analytical manner. For further information, please contact: European Commission Directorate-General Information Society Attn: MR Y Domzalski rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 200 B-1049 Brussels Tel: +32-2-296 8209/7056 Fax +32-2-296 8393
