European universities launch 'Euro League'
Six universities from across Europe signed a letter of intent on 3 September confirming their mutual cooperation in the new 'Euro League' network of EU universities. The Euro League aims to develop a network of quality universities in the field of natural resources, food and life sciences. Participating universities will share expertise and costs in the development and delivery of degree programmes. They will also examine issues such as student and teacher mobility and mutually recognised quality assessment. The six universities taking part in the scheme are the University of Aberdeen (UK), Universität für Bodenkultur (Austria), Universität Hohenheim (Germany), The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (Denmark), the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Sweden) and Wageningen University (the Netherlands). The establishment of the league follows the signing of the Bologna Treaty by European education ministers in 1999 and the Prague talks between European universities in May this year.
