The European Commission has announced a call for proposals for indirect RTD action on 'confirming the international role of Community research' under the Fifth Framework Programme's specific programme for research, technological development and demonstration. Those eligible to participate in indirect RTD actions under the specific programme are invited to submit proposals for the following parts of the work programme: - States in the phase of pre-accession to the European Union (Bulgaria, Republic of Cyprus, Czech republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania; Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia): 1. Strategic action on training and excellence - As a contribution to maintaining and reinforcing the scientific excellence of the candidate countries and to allowing the Member States to benefit from the scientific expertise of these countries, the scientific mobility of a number of high level researchers form these countries will be supported in order to strengthen scientific co-operation between the parties involved. Deadline: 18/01/2001 Budget: Approximately 2 million euro Call identifier: ICFP501A1AM05 2. Conference participation support - In order to promote the creation of networks with a view to future participation in joint projects and concerted actions of the Fifth Framework Programme, participation of researchers from these countries in conferences in Western Europe will be supported, as well as the organisation of conferences in the countries themselves. The initiatives can also cover information days about the programmes of the EU framework programme. Deadlines: 16/11/2001, 15/03/2002, 16/07/2002 Budget: Approximately 9 million euro for the overall period Call identifier: ICFP599A1AM02 - Newly independent states and central and eastern European countries not in the pre-accession phase (Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, federal republic of Yugoslavia, Former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia, Moldavia, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan): Conference participation support - In order to promote the creation of networks with a view to future participation in joint projects and concerted actions of the Fifth Framework Programme, participation of researchers from these countries in conferences in Western Europe will be supported, as well as the organisation of conferences in the countries themselves. Deadlines: 16/11/2001, 15/03/2002, 16/07.2002 Budget: Approximately 1.5 million euro for the overall period Call identifier: ICFP599A2AM02 - Mediterranean partner countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Authority, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey): Accompanying measures - These will include workshops, seminars, studies, conference support and networking in order to establish the state of the art in subjects of particular interest; to disseminate results to scientists, decision-makers and other appropriate parties; to evaluate and monitor research projects for quality control purposes; to conduct regional dialogue and priority setting; to co-ordinate research groups or to provide specific RTD training. Deadlines: 16/11/2001, 15/03/2002, 16/07/2002 Budget: Approximately 0.9 million euro for the overall period Call identifier: ICFP599A3AM01 - Research for development (all countries covered by A4, see work programme): Accompanying measures - These will include workshops, seminars, studies, conference support and networking in order to establish the state of the art in subjects of particular interest; to disseminate results to scientists, decision-makers and other appropriate parties; to evaluate and monitor research projects for quality control purposes; to conduct regional dialogue and priority setting; to co-ordinate research groups or to provide specific RTD training. Deadlines: 16/11/2001, 15/03/2002, 16/07/2002 Budget: Approximately 4.5 million euro for the overall period Call identifier: ICFP599A4AM01 - Emerging economies and industrialised countries: Accompanying measures - This activity aims to ensure access for European researchers and engineers to the expertise and knowledge which exists in third countries in order to contribute to the success of the Fifth Framework Programme. In this way, third country researchers and engineers will also gain direct access to Community external policy. The activity falls under three main headings: 1. Determination of S&T co-operation activities of European interest 2. Implementation of S&T co-operation agreements 3.
