The Commission of the European Communities invited, in Official Journal No C 203 of 27.7.1993 proposals for research and technological development projects in the context of the specific programme of RTD in the field of marine science and technology, MAST (1990-1994). The closing date for this call, set at 27 October 1993, has now been put back to 15 December 1993. In other respects the call remains unchanged and as originally published. The sole objective covered by the call is the assessment of possible risk likely to affect the marine environment in association with research, monitoring and surveying in marine sciences and technologies. Topics eligible for study may be drawn from ongoing projects of the MAST I (1990-1992) and MAST II (1992-1994) programmes, and may also be identified from oceanographic and marine activities of other international programmes, either ongoing or planned. Research activities in European waters are of particular, though not exclusive, relevance. Among the possible research themes the use of high power acoustic sources, the development of antifouling techniques, large scale sampling and measuring techniques, the installation of coastal protection structures, the use of tracers, etc. are to be mentioned. Risk related to hydrocarbon extraction and maritime transport are excluded. Where projects are related to MAST activities, each consortium of applicants must involve at least one participant from the relevant MAST project. Information on the procedures for submission of proposals, plus application forms and background material describing in more detail the objectives and topics covered by this call, are available on written request from: Commission of the European Communities DG XIII/D-3 MAST II Call for Proposals (SDME 3/78) rue Montoyer 75 B-1040 Brussels Telex COMEU B 21877; Fax +32-2-2963024
