Competition for IST prize 2002 open
The European Commission has opened the competition for 2002's Information Society Technologies (IST) prize, an award of 700,000 euro, which will be awarded in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December at the IST 2002 event. Now in its eighth year, the IST prize is an award for groundbreaking products that represent the best of European innovation in information technology. It provides public recognition and a highly visible profile to entrepreneurial teams that excel in generating novel ideas and research and development (R&D) and converting them into marketable products. Some 20 finalists will receive 5,000 euro, and will exhibit their products at the IST 2002 event. A jury will then select three grand prize winners, who will each receive 200,000 euro as well as the European IST prize trophy. The competition is organised by the European council of applied sciences and engineering (Euro-CASE), with the sponsorship and support of the European Commission's IST programme. Products entered into the competition should be at least a demonstrable prototype and, if already marketed, should have been introduced into the market after 1 June 2000. Entries must be submitted by 15 May 2002.
