EIB loans 250 million euro to Italian SMEs
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is to boost investment projects by Italian SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) with four global loans totalling 250 million euro. The loans will be used to finance SME leasing contracts in industry, tourism and services. Leasing is the main source of external financing for Italian SMEs. It is estimated to account for around 40 per cent of investment financing by companies with less than 100 employees and 21 per cent for those with up to 500 employees. These loans bring the total amount of EIB lending to SMEs through the Italian leasing sector to 2.7 billion euro since 1998.
