In the context of the Community programme of action in the field of protection of the physical and mental health of workers (Council Directive published in OJ No C 28 of 3.2.1988) the Commission calls for tenders concerning the administration of a "Community information system for health and safety at work" (JANUS). The JANUS network is an initial response to a Council Resolution (published together with the Directive), requesting the Commission to examine how the exchange of information and experience in this field can be improved, particularly as regards the gathering and dissemination of data. Tenders are sought to administer the network, covering the 12 Member States, which is based on a group of national correspondents and coordinated by a central secretariat under the responsibility of the contractor. Its role consists of gathering and formulating information. Public or private firms interested in carrying out this task should submit a tender including the annual cost of the work, business references, plus proof of ability to process documents in the nine official languages of the Community.
