Liikanen to discuss information society on official visit to China
Enterprise and Information Society Commissioner Erkki Liikanen will discuss cooperation in the field of the information society during a five-day visit to China, which begins on 15 April. The visit aims to give extra impetus to dialogue between the Commission and China on ways to improve the regulatory framework for business. Mr Liikanen said: 'The EU is committed to work in partnership with China and assist the country as far as possible in its socio-economic reform process. The reform of state-owned enterprises, the promotion of SMEs, the establishment of a sound regulatory framework for business and the transfer of know-how and technology in the private sector are of particular importance.' He added that China's current boom in markets linked to information and communication technologies creates the opportunity for increased cooperation between China and the EU in the field of information society. During his visit, Commissioner Liikanen will hold talks with Minister Li Rongrong of the State economic and trade commission and Minister Li Chanjiang of the State general administration for quality supervision and quarantine. He will also attend a telecoms regulatory workshop co-organised by the Commission and China's Ministry of information industry and attend the Euro-China cooperation forum on information society in Beijing.
