Commission hunts head for European Food Safety Authority
The European Commission has extended its search for the head of the new European Food Safety Authority. The Commission, which is responsible for drawing up a list from which the management board of the authority can select its Executive Director, today placed vacancy notices in the press in all Member States and on the web sites of the authority and the Health and Consumer Protection DG in a bid to find a suitable candidate. The new recruit will be the legal representative and public face of the authority, accountable to the management board. Particular responsibilities will include developing and achieving the authority's strategic mission, day-to-day management, communication with the public and preparation and implementation of work programmes. The closing date for applications is 7 June 2002.
