Aerodays '93 conference proceedings
Aerodays '93 was the second Community Aeronautics RTD Conference organized by the Commission of the European Communities. It took place in Naples on 4-5 October 1993. The proceedings of the Conference are now available. In 1989 the Community initiated the first steps to strengthen cooperation in aeronautical research and technology development at European level by launching, a programme for specific aeronautical research within BRITE/EURAM (the specific RTD programme for industrial materials and technologies). This initiative obtained an additional impetus when a continuation activity was included in BRITE/EURAM 2 in 1992. Aeronautics '93 had a twofold objective. In addition to providing a forum for discussion of the new challenges facing the European aeronautical community, it was also an opportunity to present the results of research projects which have reached completion, and the progress of those which are still ongoing. In order to provide a wider view of cooperative aeronautical RTD in Europe, the invitation to present results in the Conference was extended to a number of projects in this field supported under other European Community programmes and EUREKA, in addition to the specific aeronautical areas of BRITE/EURAM. The published proceedings collect the papers that were presented in the 20 technical sessions of the Conference. These cover a wide range of RTD themes of interest to aeronautics and reflect the high level of collaboration attained with the common interest of advancing European technology in this crucial sector. Presentations include fields of research such as computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, materials and structures, avionics, systems, air traffic management, CAD/CAM and manufacturing processes, noise, acoustics, engine technologies and emissions, and maintenance. These topics are grouped under the six main Conference headings: - Energy efficiency, aerodynamics; - Air transport operability; - Energy efficiency, systems; - Environmental impact; - Cost effectiveness; - Safety and comfort. The Conference proceedings contains indexes to the papers by theme and also by project numbers. As well as the papers themselves, short introductions summarize information on the corresponding project(s), and include the address of the coordinator, the name of the contact person, plus a list of the partners involved.
