Commission launches TSE information site
The European Commission's DG Research has launched its TSE (transmissible spongiform encephalopathy) web pages, which gather together information on BSE, scrapie and variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Users can search for research projects and other activities funded by the Commission, find key documents, contact DG Research staff working in the field and find links to other TSE web resources. The DG has been active in the TSE area since 1990, funding work in clinical, epidemiological and social research on human spongiform encephalopathies; on the infectious agent and its transmission mechanisms; on diagnosis; risk assessment; treatment and prevention, and promoting coordination of research between Member States and newly associated states.
