A web site offering information on research and development (R&D) in Spanish universities, created in line with the Spanish Presidency information service, has clocked up 11,000 visits in six months. The Spanish and English language site, organised by the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) and to the Spanish Ministry of science and technology's site, aims to increase the visibility of Spain's universities and offer information on their research activities. An analysis carried out to mark the end of Spain's six-month presidency of the EU on June 30 shows that an average of almost 2,000 visitors logged on to the site each month. In the last week, an average of 200 visits per day was registered. Most of the Europeans that visited the site came from Portugal, Belgium, France, Slovenia, the UK and Hungary. The page that attracted the most visitors was R&D Outstanding Activities, which reached highs of 500 visits a day. The site provided information on the structure and organisation of research in Spanish universities and links to further information and contacts. It also included studies on topics such as the impact of the Fifth Framework programme on research in Spanish universities, information on high-profile research work, news, views and events. Now that the Spanish Presidency is over, the site will be integrated with another CRUE web site providing information on the Sixth Framework programme. It will be accessible through the address given below.
