The impact of ICT on environmental sustainability - call for tenders
The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has announced a call for tenders for a study on the future impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) on environmental sustainability. Information and communication technologies (ICT) play a key role in the transition towards a knowledge-based economy. Interaction between ICTs and sustainability is, however, a complex phenomenon, and well founded evidence of how ICT is affecting current and future environmental sustainability is hardly available. The project aims, therefore, to explore and assess the way ICT development is influencing current and future environmental sustainability, taking as a reference for environmental sustainability the six indicators on environmental protection that have been developed in response to the June 2001 Gothenburg European Council conclusions. The project activities include reviewing current ICT development trends, drawing a clear picture of possible future developments and assessing the environmental implications; thereby providing a sound basis for EU policy recommendations. This study will be placed also in the context of the eEurope initiative in an attempt to link these two items of the current political agenda. For further information, please contact: European Commission Directorate-General JRC - IPTS Expo-WTC Inca Garcilaso s/n E- 41092 Seville Attn: Mrs Mercè Batet-Alcon Tel: +34 954 48 83 91 Fax: +34 954 48 83 00 E-mail: JRC-TendersIPTS@cec.eu.int To see the full tender text, please consult the following web address: http://ted.eur-op.eu.int/udl?REQUEST=Seek-Deliver&LANGUAGE=en&DOCID=131636-2002
