The European Commission has published a notice of a call for expressions of interest with a view to selecting candidates who will be invited to submit proposals for the programme to combat poverty related diseases in developing countries: fight against HIV/AIDS. The Commission wishes to support activities which can help improve the relevance and usefulness of programmes to prevent, care for and/or treat HIV/AIDS among young people, including the vulnerable and poor. Projects chosen for financing will relate to information, education and communication directed towards changing behaviour, research for health system organisation and activities relating to prevention, care and treatment. Guiding principles include: - The integration of research, action and training into project development; - The development of innovative products in line with the concerns of the 'Millennium development goals'; - Consideration for sustainability - Consideration for the young people who form the most disadvantaged and vulnerable sections of the population; - Prioritisation of relevant and effective collaboration between partners within a single country and/or in different countries which integrate the fight against HIV/AIDS with wider issues of poverty reduction; - Demonstration of the potential for strengthening the capacities of developing countries and local networks; - Production of measurable results in terms of health, improvement of living conditions and poverty reduction. Grants for individual projects will range from 2.5 to five million euro. The overall amount available for this call for expressions of interest is 22 million euro. For further information, please consult the following web address: http://europa.eu.int/comm/europeaid/index_en.htm
