The European Commission's Research DG has issued a call for tenders for support producing a European directory of local ethics committees. The European Commission intends to launch an invitation to tender within the framework of the European research area and the implementation of the science and society action plan ethics committees. The purpose of this tender is: - to establish a complete directory of local ethics committees in the EU, in candidate countries and other countries associated to the Fifth Framework programme for research including Turkey and Switzerland; - to analyse the main challenges and difficulties in the functioning of these committees and main needs to improve their functioning. The contract will contribute to the implementation of both the European research area and the science and society action plan's objective to foster the networking of local committees at European level. This is in line with the policy of the Sixth Framework programme (Article 3), which says that EC research activities have to conform with the ethical principles stated in the European Charter of fundamental rights. For further information, please contact: European Commission Directorate-General Research Attn: Mrs Barbara Rhode rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 200 Office SDME 6/44 B-1049 Brussels Tel: +32 2 295 9888 Fax +32 2 298 4694 To see the call text, please consult the following web address: http://ted.eur-op.eu.int/udl?REQUEST=Seek-Deliver&LANGUAGE=en&DOCID=136147-2002
