The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has published a call for tenders for a study on the potential of hydrogen as a fuel for transport in the long term (2020 to 2030). The study should investigate the technical and economic potential of hydrogen as an alternative fuel for transport in the long term (2020-2030). The main technological options of production, distribution, storage and use of hydrogen as a fuel should be identified and evaluated. The analysis should cover the use of hydrogen in fuel cells, internal combustion engines, and hybrid applications. The technical, economic, market or other obstacles - as well as potential instruments to overcome them - should be investigated. The study should include a life cycle analysis of the environmental impacts of the shift to hydrogen. Applications in road, maritime, air and rail transport should be examined. For further information, please contact: European Commission Directorate-General JRC - IPTS Ed.
