Sixth research programme "industrial hygiene in mines"
Since 1957, in accordance with Article 55 of the ECSC Treaty, a total of ECU 30.9 million spread over five successive research programmes has been granted by the European Communities for projects relating to the health and safety of workers in mines. In a Memorandum published in the Official Journal the Commission outlines the objectives of a sixth "industrial hygiene in mines" programme to be implemented over a minimum of four years from 1990 with a budget of ECU 9 million. Research will continue in four main areas: control of pollutants; dust measurement and determination of dust properties; environmental factors and occupation-related diseases; noise and vibration. Projects will be carried out by mining companies and mining research institutes in the Member States. Community financial assistance may not exceed 60% of the total direct cost of a project.
