The first telematics-based training conference organized within the DELTA programme has been pronounced a success. At six sites throughout Europe, between thirty and one hundred participants (at each site) were linked together to take part in a trans-European event. On 26-27 October 1993, the satellite-linked European conference (Athens, Berlin, Brussels, London, Madrid and Montpellier) included a two-hour interactive opening session during which a number of DELTA projects were presented, followed by workshops concerning specific local topics. The conference was brought to a close with a further two-hour interactive session. It is considered that the technology (involving a two-satellite link plus earth stations and local reception and transmission) was adequate for the conference. However, improvements are still to be made to support the interaction and participation required in this kind of event.
