CORDIS, the European Commission's Research and Development Information Service, is offering comprehensive descriptions of projects carried out by the Joint Research Center (JRC) during the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5). The European Commission's research laboratory supports policy makers in the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of policies. More than 80 records were recently added in the CORDIS Projects database to cover the latest JRC achievements. Each record provides a general description of the project, key data, links when available, as well as contact details. Examples of supporting activities to the Community policy cycle range from food contamination, genetic modification, chemical hazards, global change, pollution effects on health to cyber-criminality and nuclear safety. Analysis of policy process, testing systems, reports and guidance cover more areas including strategic prospective, policy challenges and scenarios for 2020 (Futures project). In the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), the JRC will provide yet more user-oriented services with a sound scientific basis. It will be very active in helping to strengthen the human scientific potential as well as organisations in applicant countries while promoting scientific excellence in the European Research Area (ERA). Regular consultation of the CORDIS Projects database would enable potential FP6 participants to search for previous research projects in specific fields and thus avoid duplication. It is also a key tool for identifying potential partners with prior experience and offers a comprehensive overview of European funded research trends in different domains.
