European Parliament session of 15-19 November 1993: Fourth Framework Programme; SPRINT; VALUE
RTD-related topics tabled for debate during the European Parliament sitting of 15-19 November 1993 include: - A report on the proposed 4th Framework Programme for Community RTD (1994-1998) by Dr. R. Linkohr, of the European Parliament's Energy Committee. Subjects under discussion are the Council's emphasis on the financing of solely precompetitive research, the size of the overall budget (the report takes the view that it is too small), and the scope of the Framework Programme, as some Members of the European Parliament wish to see it extended to cover the social sciences; - In conjunction with the above, a report on the dissemination and exploitation of successful research projects (VALUE, the programme for the dissemination and exploitation of research and technological development of the Community, 1992-1994); - A report from the Energy Committee on SPRINT, the strategic programme for innovation and technology transfer (1989-1993). The programme aims to promote innovation and technology transfer by strengthening the innovative capacity of European producers with a view to the single market, by fostering the rapid penetration of new technologies and the dissemination of innovation throughout the Community economy, and by enhancing the effectiveness and coherence of existing instruments and policies in this field.
