New Austrian organisation to raise public awareness of science
The 'Austrian Science Society' (ÖWIG), which aims to inform the public about the importance of science, was founded at the Technical University of Vienna on 2 December. The organisation will focus on practical support for public understanding and awareness of science, technology and the humanities. Activities will include the implementation of projects, the stimulation of new projects, which may be coordinated by external bodies, and the coordination of current projects on public awareness of science. An initial task will be the stimulation of a discussion on the division of competences for science between different ministries, means of support and between the different federal States.
