Euroabstracts January 1994
The monthly journal "Euroabstracts" is published by DG XIII of the Commission of the European Communities. It provides abstracts of Community RTD publications plus reviews of Community RTD results, policies and activities. Items in the January 1994 issue include a focus on the European Community's role in stimulating electronic publishing. The enormous storage capacity of interactive multimedia has the potential to give dramatic impetus to the traditional print publishing industry and to transform the entire character of publishing. The Community's IMPACT programme has recently launched a series of projects in the field of interactive multimedia. Also featured is the support undertaken by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) for Community science and technology policies. As well as prenormative research for the Community's scientific, regulatory and administrative bodies, the JRC carries out major scientific projects at European level and makes an important contribution to the education and training of European scientists. Providing a further insight into the role of the JRC now and in the future, Euroabstracts interviews Jean-Pierre Contzen, the JRC's Director-General. The January edition also includes some 50 pages of abstracts of recent Community publications on research, science and technology. These cover a wide range of subjects from chemistry, physics and earth sciences to engineering and technology, energy, advanced materials, mathematics, computing, telecommunications, nuclear science, and life sciences. In addition, Euroabstracts features extracts from the CORDIS online RTD-News service.
