Commission funded project raising awareness of knowledge technologies
KTweb is a Commission funded initiative that aims to promote awareness of digital content, media and knowledge technologies (KT) within the field of information access, filtering and handling. The two year initiative was created as part of the MULTIPLE project, an accompanying measure of the Information Society Technologies section of the Fifth Framework Programme. The project will also identify emerging areas of research and development, and will assist ongoing projects form networks and commercialise their results. KTweb will also provide a variety of free services via its website, including: - News items and events of relevance to the KT community; - Case studies of successful commercialisation of research projects, or of commercial applications of KT; - Technology fact sheets addressing specific areas of KT, including an explanation of the technology, actual and potential uses, past and present areas of research, and future prospects; Areas of particular relevance will include semantic web, ontology, GRID computing, web services, knowledge representation and agent technologies. As well as providing such information, the website will also act as a virtual interactive community, primarily aimed at research and business organisations. KTweb is also organising workshops to promote the commercialisation activities of the project, to bring together KT experts to explore research issues, and to introduce researchers to potential industrial partners.
