The number of Lithuanians using the Internet has increased by 55 per cent over the last year according to a survey by SIC Gallup Media. While the percentage of the population using the Internet at least once per month during winter 2001-2002 was 13.1 per cent, that figure has now risen to 20.3 per cent. Those using the Internet are also doing so more regularly, according to the survey. The number of people aged between 15 and 74 using the Internet at least once per week has increased, from 11.3 per cent to 16.9 per cent over the same period. The average Internet usage rate in the EU is 39 per cent. The number of people using a computer is also on the increase, with 27.4 per cent of Lithuanians now using a computer at least once a week, compared with 19.6 per cent one year ago. The survey was based on interviews with 1,500 people between December 2002 and February 2003.
