Finnish and French research bodies sign cooperation agreement
The Academy of Finland and the French national research centre (CNRS) have signed a new agreement aimed at boosting research cooperation between the two countries. While both bodies have been working closely in the field of scientific research since 1974, the new agreement is expected to provide a wider framework within which the Academy of Finland and the CNRS can decide on joint projects, programmes and other joint activities. Anneli Pauli, executive vice president for research at the Academy of Finland welcomed the signing of the agreement, saying that building such partnerships were of particular importance for Finland's scientific base. 'France is one of the major forces in European science and research and an important partner of Finland's. The agreement now signed between the Academy and the CNRS gives us the opportunity systematically to develop funding cooperation in such fields of study that are best placed to benefit both in Finland and France,' she said. 'We will of course continue to have cooperation in the context of the European Union and other international organisations, but these programmes focus on specific themes and have certain rules and timetables that do not necessarily lend themselves to all purposes of research cooperation,' Dr Pauli added.
