The European Commission's Enterprise DG has published a call for tenders to establish a service to encourage good practice in the area of open source software in public administrations. The service will primarily address national and regional open source competence centres and will include carrying out technical and economic analysis and issuing recommendations. The prime action, however, will be to establish a systematic overview of open source activities in European public administrations, and to facilitate the exchange of information about opportunities and risks associated with open source software.
